Roll On Roll Off Ferry Service
Inland waterways can play an important role in solving countries connectivity issues and can save a lot of fuel and time. Going forward with the initiative to upgrade all existing ports under Sagarmal Yojana and enhancing opportunities for development of Inland Water ways. Countries 1st Roll On Roll off ferry service was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi on 22nd October 2017, Between Gogha and Dahej reducing the travelling time between both these places to just 1 hour from existing 8 hours. We are here with the salient features of the project.
- This will be the 1st World Class RO-RO ferry Service in South Asia. The project will link south Gujarat to Saurashtra and by allowing vehicles with people aboard, will save time, fuel and clear congested roads
- There are plans to extend the service to other locations across the Gulf of Khambat and Gulf of Kutch. There are also ambitious plans to connect the state to Mumbai and other southern states by this link.
Many more inland waterways are being planned by the government along the Ganga basin.
