 Manajit Chakraborty

Preliminary Information

  • Name: Manajit Chakraborty
  • Category: GEN
  • Exam Applied for: IBPS SO 2 2013
  • Post Applied For: IT Officer Scale 1
  • Cutoff Marks: 137
  • Marks secured by Manjit: 148
  • Mode OF Study: Self Preparation
  • How Did he rate the paper level: Moderate

What was my strategy while i attempted the exam:

Exam Strategy: My strategy as has always been to go out there with an open mind, without thinking much about the exam and its aftermath. I have seen people mugging up equations and formulas till the very last moments, brooding over piles of notes before entering the exam hall. I never preferred that approach, neither should you. What you have missed in your preparation in last 2-3 months can’t be covered up in last 2-3 minutes before the exam. So its better to prepare firsthand and come with a clear mind to take on the question paper on as-is basis.  During the exam I focused first on my strength which was English, then I moved on to reasoning and aptitude as I was confident of negotiating the professional part in the last half-an-hour or so. The trick essentially worked, although I wasn’t very confident after the exam.

Preparation Strategy: good 2-3 months preparation is enough to clear the written exam.

Video:

How Did I Prepare for Professional Knowledge Section:

To be honest I did not go through any pre-hand preparation for Professional Knowledge exam as my marks show. What I learnt from my previous GATE exam experiences proved enough for me to clear the written exam. As a candidate coming from Engineering background, the questions and its level shouldn’t bother anybody who has clear concepts of the basic/core subjects.

Advice: The stress should rather be laid on aptitude and reasoning questions. I have seen many a good studious students falter on these two.

Tip: Be to your basics, recall your professional knowledge in the stream you have chosen and just go and fire

Tips and Tricks from my side to future aspirants:

  • Go out there with a happy-go-lucky attitude.
  • Even if you can’t clear the written in one go, its not the end of the world for you. Remember there is always a next year!(unless of course you are 28 :P)
  • Start your preparation with aptitude building and reasoning. Even though it may sound clichéd and you might have heard people referring it you numerous times during your entire education, R.S Aggarwal can actually be a very good companion in this regard. I don’t have much knowledge regarding coaching centers etc.
  • But if you really think you can’t manage preparing on your own probably because you already have a job, I would recommend one but with caution. In the end its your 4 year dedication that matters and to an extent how your luck pans out on that particular day.
  • Nevertheless, never lose hope until the war is over….and for you my friend, Sky is the limit! 🙂
