Ever since the introduction of Reserve List by IBPS in PO-3 allotment process, there have been a buzz going around and you all must have heard some chitter-chatters about candidates protesting & moving to court against the Reserve List. Till now, there has only been very little or none authentic sources to confirm this news.

But now, it is confirmed that IBPS PO-3 Reserve List has been challenged in high court. Not only it is challenged but the High Court has issued notices to the IBPS and the Department of Financial Services in the Union Finance Ministry to furnish the details of all existing and un-filled vacancies.

Following article published yesterday on the official website of The Hindu confirms this news. To read this article click this link:

Our take on this issue:

We believe that it is too soon to predict the outcome of this legal fight because the further course of action will depend a lot on the report that is to be submitted by IBPS. But, it seems certain that this will delay the process for second round of allotment which was earlier expected to be rolled out in the month of August 2014.

Detailed Analysis of SBI Clerical Exam till now:

Number of sections : 5 (Quant, Reasoning, English, General Awareness, Computer/Marketing Awareness)

Number of questions : 200 (= 5 section * 40 questions per section)

Time duration : 135 minutes (2 hrs 15 minutes)

Difficulty level : Overall the Paper level lies in the range Easy to Moderate with more inclination towards Easy. The reason being the time duration (135 minutes) available to solve the paper as generally most banking exams today provide only 120 minutes to solve the paper. So these extra 15 minutes play a vital role in deciding the difficulty level of paper.

Section-wise analysis :

Quantitative Aptitude :

  • 2 sets of Data Interpretation [5-6 questions in each set] (Moderately Easy to solve if you practice DI regularly)
  • Basic questions form topics like CI/SI, Percentage, Time-Speed and distance, Work & Time, Ratio-Proportion and Variation, Linear equations.
  • Questions on Pattern Based number series [4-5 questions] (e.g.What comes in place of ? in the series: 1, 2, 4, 7, ?)
  • Questions on Approximate calculation [5-6 questions]

Reasoning :

  • Questions on Linear Seating Arrangement [1 set with 5-6 questions]
  • Questions on Circular Seating Arrangement (with persons facing towards and opposite to the center) [1 set with 5-6 questions]
  • Questions on Syllogism (limited to 2 statements) [4-5 questions]
  •  Questions on Coding/Decoding [1 set of 3-4 statements with 5-6 questions]
  • Questions on Data Arrangement (puzzles) [2 sets with 4-5 questions each]
  • Questions on Inequalities [5-6 questions]

English:

  • Para-jumble (Arranging sentences of a paragraph in correct order) [1 set with 5-6 question]
  • Cloze Test (Paragraph with 8-10 fill in the blanks) [1 set with 8-10 blanks]
  • Comprehension [1 set with 8-10 questions]
  • Error Detection/ Grammar Correction in sentences [6-7 questions]
  • Fill in the blanks (Sentences with single blank and 2 blanks as well) [7-8 questions]

Computer/Marketing Awareness:

  • Very basic questions (full forms, definition based questions) from Marketing and Computer in almost equal number.

General Awareness :

This section covered questions from following areas:

  • Current affairs (If you regularly follow newspapers, magazines, news channels then this section is a piece of cake)
  • Banking knowledge (Totally fact based questions on banking. E.g. Main function of RBI, banking terminology etc.)

So far, this has been the pattern followed in SBI Clerical Exam 2014 and we expect the same pattern to be followed in upcoming exam dates.

With application of IBPS PO 2014 has just began, the most asked query these days is how to fill bank preference and how to get the best match.
This Post gives you an advised preference order for Northern/western/central/eastern candidates.

How Banks Are Allotted??

IBPS allot you banks according to your score and the bank with a higher priority lying in your choice bracket. For E.g. You placed your 1st choice as Punjab National Bank and 2nd choice as Bank Of Baroda and the cutoff required for PNB is 46. Your score is 44. The cutoff required for BOB is 43.2. IBPS will allot you BOB as your marks fits the cutoff and priority says IBPS to do so. But in case you fill a IOB (Indian Overseas Bank) above BOB and Cutoff required for IOB is 43. IBPS will then allot you IOB as your bank preference says that IOB is your choice No 2.
