As It is important for a banking aspirant to know the International Organizations & their headquarters, since questions from this section may be asked in the exams.Today, we will discuss about Important International Organizations, their headquarters and tricks to remember them.

  • UNICEF:- United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is a humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries. It was created on 11th December 1946 to provide emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that had been devastated by World War II. Parent organization – United Nations Economic and Social Council
  • NATO:- North Atlantic treaty Organization (NATO) also called North Atlantic Alliance is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty signed on 4th April 1949.
  • United Nations:- The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. It is currently made up of 193 Member States.  The mission and work of the United Nations are guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter.
  • World Bank:- Founded in 1944. Originally, its loans helped rebuild countries devastated by World War II. In time, the focus shifted from reconstruction to development, with a heavy emphasis on infrastructure such as dams, electrical grids, irrigation systems, and roads.
  • UNESCO:- Founded on 16th November 1945, it is responsible for coordinating international cooperation in education, science, culture and communication. It strengthens the ties between nations and societies, and mobilizes the wider public so that each child and citizen.
  • WHO:- Founded on 7th April 1948. The goal is to build a better, healthier future for people all over the world. Working through offices in more than 150 countries, WHO staff work side by side with governments and other partners to ensure the highest attainable level of health for all people.
  • Forbes:- Forbes is an American business magazine. Published bi-weekly, it features original articles on finance, industry, investing, and marketing topics & was founded in 1917.
  • BRICS:- BRICS is the acronym for an association of five major emerging national economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa & was founded on 2006.
  • WTO:- The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the only global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations & was founded on 1st January 1995.
  • SAARC:- The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is the regional intergovernmental organization and geopolitical union of nations in South Asia. Its member states include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, the Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It was founded on 8th December 1985.

Tricks to remember the headquarters of the organizations :

Rule 1: If the name of any Organization starts with “World or International” and ends with “Organization”, their headquarters will be in “Geneva, Switzerland”.
