8th BRICS Summit
BRICS is a group of five major emerging economies, comprising 43% of the world population, having 37% of the world GDP and 17% share in the world trade. South Africa was the last country which have joined the group in 2010 and completed the group as BRICS
The 8th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit was held on 15th and 16th October 2016 in Benaulim city of Goa, India
Theme: Building Responsive, Inclusive and Collective Solutions.

Focus of the Summit
- The summit’s focus was on enhancing people-to-people (P2P) contacts of BRICS member states, especially youth. In this context, India conducted activities like U-17 Football Tournament, Youth Summit, Young Diplomats’ Forum, and Film Festival among others.
- The ninth BRICS Summit will be hosted by China in 2017. In 2015, the seventh BRICS summit was held from 8 to 9 July in the Russian city of Ufa in Bashkortostan.
