Four-nation Africa tour: Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya

Kenya, 11 July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on a wide range of issues aimed at boosting ties in the African continent, particularly in the economic sphere. Tanzania, 10 July: The two leaders agreed to work closely, bilaterally, regionally and globally to combat the twin threats of terrorism and climate change. The two sides signed an agreement under which India would provide a Line of Credit of $ 92 million for rehabilitation and improvement of Zanzibar’s water supply system. Other agreements signed included an MoU on water resource management and development, an MoU for establishment of vocational training centre at Zanzibar, an MoU on visa waiver for diplomatic/official passport holders and an agreement between the National Small Industries Corporation of India and the Small Industries Development Organisation, Tanzania.
South Africa, 8 July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with South African President Jacob Zuma on a wide range of issues aimed at boosting ties in the African continent, particularly in the economic sphere. Modi will address a India-South Africa business meet during his stay in South Africa with which India has a two-way trade reaching USD 5.3 billion in 2015-16.
Mozambique, 7 July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi during said terrorism is the “gravest threat” to the world and spoke about bolstering security and defence ties between India and Mozambique, which are connected by the Indian Ocean. A significant “long term” agreement was signed under which India will buy pulses from this country to plug its shortfall and contain prices of this commodity.
Five-nation tour – Afghanistan, Qatar, Switzerland, USA, Mexico
Mexico, June 9: Mexico supported “positively” and “constructively” India’s membership of the 48-nation bloc as the two countries agreed to develop a roadmap to upgrade bilateral ties to a strategic partnership. “Mexico supports positively and constructively India’s membership of the NSG (Nuclear Suppliers Group),” Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said at a joint media interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
USA, June 7: PM Modi had detailed discussions with President Barack Obama and addressed a joint sitting of the US Congress. In doing so, he was the fifth Indian leader to address the Congress.
Switzerland, June 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann to deepen bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Qatar: India and Qatar inked seven agreements, to bolster bilateral ties between both nations, in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani. MoU between National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), Ministry of Finance, Government of India and Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) was signed during this trip.
Afghanistan, June 4, 2016: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani formally inaugurated the $290-million Salma Dam on Saturday, jointly pressing a remote-control button that sent water surging through turbines which will provide up to 42 MW power to the country’s most rapidly-growing industrial hub. Water from the dam will also irrigate a region devastated by a 15-year drought that has ravaged the countryside.
Tehran, May 21: Hoping to raise India’s relations with Iran to a new level, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Tehran on May 21 and, among the meetings scheduled there, is one with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Modi-Khamenei meeting will be closely watched, especially by Israel, Pakistan and the United States. Khamenei is Iran’s most powerful leader who controls all policy matters.
Saudi Arabia, April 2: The focus of PM Modi’s conversations with King Salman, Crown Prince and Interior Minister Mohammed bin Nayef and Deputy Crown Prince and Defence Minister Mohammed bin Salman were on counter-terrorism cooperation. India’s ties with Saudi Arabia, one of the world’s leading oil producers, have been on an upswing over the last two decades based on burgeoning energy ties and both countries may look to move beyond buyer-seller relationship in the sector and go for joint ventures and investment in refineries and oil fields.
Belgium: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the victims of the Brussels terror attacks in which over 30 people, including an Indian, lost their lives. Modi, who arrived Brussels on a day-long visit to attend the India-EU Summit, laid a wreath at the Maalbeek Metro station in the Belgian capital where a suicide blew himself up killing scores of passengers, including Raghavendran Ganeshan, who was an Infosys employee from Bengaluru.
