Analogy refers to ‘Correspondence’. Such type of questions consist a relationship style. We have to detect that relationship and have to apply the same to find that is asked in the question. This test is set up to test a candidate’s overall knowledge and to judge ability to think concisely and accurately. This type of questions cover all types of relationships that one can think of. Here’s questions are based on quantity and unit, instrument and measurement, sex relationship, word and their synonyms, word and their antonyms etc.
Types of questions asked in examination:
There are three types of questions which are designed for various competitive exams.
- Completing the analogous pair
- Direct/Simple Analogy
- A Alphabet Analogy
TYPE 1: COMPLETING THE ANALOGOUS PAIR
Such type of questions consist of two words. Both the words are related to each other in some way.The candidate is required to find out the relationship between the first word and have to apply same relationship to find that is asked in question.

Genuine : Authentic :: Mirage : ?
a) Reflection
b) Hide out
c) Illusion
d) Image
Ans – (C) ‘Authentic’ is synonym of ‘Genuine’. In the same way, ‘illusion’ is synonym of ‘Mirage’.

d) Islamabad
Ans – (D) ‘New Delhi’ is the capital of ‘India’. Similarly, ‘Islamabad’ is the capital of ‘Pakistan’
TYPE 2: DIRECT/SIMPLE ANALOGY
Here, we are given direct analogy. We are given one thing is related to another. In the same way, next another thing will be related to which?
For Example:
‘Cyclone’ is related to ‘Anticyclone’, in the same way as ‘Flood’ is related to
a) Devastation
b) Havoc
c) River
d) Drought
Ans – (D) ‘Anticyclone’ is opposite to ‘Cyclone’. In the same way, ‘Drought’ is opposite to ‘Flood’.
‘Writer’ is related to ‘Reader’. In the same way as ‘Producer’ is related to

b) Consumer

d) Contractor
Ans – (B) A ‘Writer’ writes for the ‘Reader’ .In the same way, a ‘Producer’ produces articles for the ‘Consumer’
TYPE 3: A ALPHABET ANALOGY
Here, two group of letters related to each other in some manner are given and the candidate is asked to find out the relationship of another group of letters which is related in the same way to another letter group.
