Talking About Banking Scenario

Scenario at Banking Industry on a whole is not very good. The problem is that a middle layer of Officers are retiring every month who are being filled by immature (have less knowledge of banking) like us. So time need is to learn very quickly.

Banking doesn’t just mean Deposits, Accounts, coming to bank at 10, going home at 5. It is much more, and as you are dealing with Money, Your responsibility is higher. You will be the signing authority at banks in a few month, you need to learn things faster. And you have literally no banking hours at bank. In city branches sitting till 7:30 is a normal trend.

Here is a list of Things a newly Recruited Probationary Officer must learn everyday.

  • KYC Document Verification : Any customer of a branch needs to introduce himself with KYC documents for the 1st time. You need to properly verify the documents. In case a document is later found fodged, or a fraud happens, you are bound to be penalized under Money Laundering Act. After opening the customer account, Send a welcome letter to his address. This will help you to confirm his identity.
  • Know the Cheque Crossings properly: Cheques are payment instruments used in banks. Cheques can have many different crossings for different purposes. Do learn them. If a wrong payment is done through the cheque you will be liable to pay the loss amount.
  • Learn Cash Management : This includes working as a cashier. During Probation Period you will be asked to handle cash coming in branch. Learn how to verify fake notes.
  • Proper Register Entry: register Entries need to be done at regular intervals. Suppose you are giving a Demand Draft to a customer, maintain a record and get the signature of customer then and there.
  • Start documenting: As I discussed above the experienced resources are getting scare in bank. In such times don’t be surprised if you are made the second man (officer after manager) at a branch and you are asked to document loan documents and do the recommendations. Start learning Loans.

These were a few tips from sir to the new Probationary Officers joining in. We hope that the article was helpful.
