CERSAI: Central Registry of Securitisation Asset Reconstruction and Security Interest of India

Cersai is the central registry of the securities that are mortgaged with the banks. Cersai registration has been made compulsary for all property based loans. Once registered on Cersai, the customer cannot mortgage the same property unless the loan is paid off. This reduces chances of fraud.
Cersai was incorporated with majority shareholding of the Central Government, Public Sector Banks and National Housing Bank for the purpose of operating a Registration System under the provisions of Chapter IV of the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act, 2002. (SARFAESI Act).
