BRICS is a group of five major emerging economies, comprising 43% of the world population, having 37% of the world GDP and 17% share in the world trade. South Africa was the last country which have joined the group in 2010 and completed the group as BRICS

The 8^th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit was held on 15^th and 16^th October 2016 in Benaulim city of Goa, India

Theme: Building Responsive, Inclusive and Collective Solutions.

• The ninth BRICS Summit will be hosted by China in – 2017

Focus of the Summit

• The summit’s focus was on enhancing people-to-people (P2P) contacts of BRICS member states, especially youth. In this context, India conducted activities like U-17 Football Tournament, Youth Summit, Young Diplomats’ Forum, and Film Festival among others.
• The ninth BRICS Summit will be hosted by China in 2017. In 2015, the seventh BRICS summit was held from 8 to 9 July in the Russian city of Ufa in Bashkortostan.
