RAILWAY RECRUITMENT 2016: Selection Process

The 18252 vacancies released as part of Railway Recruitment 2016 were for various positions in Indian Railways. There were 19 Railway boards spread across the nation are responsible for conducting recruitment which differs for each post i.e.:

  • Computer Based Test
  • Typing Skill Test
  • Aptitude Test

We are going to explain here the detailed procedure  so you can prepare well for the RRB Exam.

RRB Recruitment Selection Process:

Computer Based Common Online Test:

Firstly all the candidates have to appear for a Common Computer Based online test which includes objective type questions from General Awareness, Arithmetic, General intelligence & Reasoning sections at cities you have already chosen.You have to answer them within 90 minutes  These tests shall be held by individual RRB’s between March to May 2016.

RRBs will proceed to next stage based on individual cut offs.

Commercial Apprentice, Traffic Apprentice, Goods Guard & Enquiry cum Reservation Clerk :

For Commercial Apprentice, Traffic Apprentice, Goods Guard & Enquiry cum Reservation Clerk there are no further stages . Candidates who have qualified in the online test & scored good marks to feature in the merit list for that post will be directly invited for DOCUMENT VERIFICATION process.




After successful completion of document verification, the candidate will be considered for appointment & other joining formalities including medical & fitness test.

Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum typist & Senior Time keeper:

If you desire to become Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum typist or Senior Time keeper ,here are the stages that one must cross

Computer Based Test > Typing Skill Test > Document Verification

After securing necessary cut offs fixed for these 3 posts, Candidates equal to 8 times to the number of vacancies will be called for Typing Skill Test.

About Typing Skill Test:

  • Candidates should be able to type 30 WPM in English OR 25 WPM in Hindi on Computer provided at centre.
  • Typing Skill test doesn’t carry any marks but participants must qualify in it.
  • Spell check facility & other editing tools would be disabled on the system while typing test.
  • Failing in this test will lead to disqualification to join as Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum typist & Senior Time keeper.

Candidates who successfully qualified the Typing Skill test will be called for Document verification as per the merit list.

Traffic Assistant & Assistant Station Master:

To become Traffic Assistant or Assistant Station Master in RRBs , candidates must go through these stages:

Computer Based Test > Aptitude Test > Document Verification

After clearing Computer Based test, Candidates have to appear in an Aptitude Test.Candidates equal to 8 times to the number of vacancies will be called for Typing Skill Test.

About Aptitude Test: Aptitude tests are conducted to test a candidate’s attention, intelligence, concentration, strengths & perception which are required for certain job profiles.

  • A weightage of 70% marks will be for CBT & 30% marks for Aptitude test for preparing the merit list.
  • Scoring good marks in addition to qualifying the aptitude test is necessary.
  • No negative marks for incorrect responses.

Apart from all this candidates should bring their Eye Vision Certificate from an Eye Specialist tot he aptitude centre without which they will not be allowed to appear in Aptitude test.

Those who comes under merit list will be called for Document verification.
