CMAT: Introduction
 

CMAT-2015-16Common Management Admissions Test (CMAT) will be an Global entrance test for MBA aspirants for admission for nearly 1.6lac seats in 4000+ B-Schools recognized by AICTE and most of them are expected to accept the CMAT. This test will be conducted by AICTE. It will conduct in 64 cities in our country. Jodhpur and Jaipur are the test venues in Rajasthan. CMAT 2015 was taken by around 180000 students in its fourth year. The CMAT will be a 3-hours online exam. The exam will consist of 4 sections – Quantitative Techniques, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, Data Interpretation and General Awareness. Each section will contain 25 questions of total 100 marks. There will be a negative marking system where 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer and there will be no sectional validity. CMAT will be a computer-based test (CBT). A candidate will read the questions on a computer terminal and choose an answer by clicking on the correct option. Further CMAT would be conducted twice a year. The students will be eligible to appear in both the exam and best of the two scores will be used for admission for 2014-15. The first CMAT was conducted in September for the academic year 2014-16.

 

 

CMAT: Facts

 

States that have accepted CMAT : All States have partially or fully accepted CMAT scores 

CMAT Score relevance:  The detailed merit list will be provided to the respective State Governments for allotting the students through central counseling or otherwise as per their notified admission procedure. In case there is no central counseling Scores awarded will be used for admission in the AICTE approved Institutes/University Departments.

 

National Entrance test: > 90 cities

Section swapping: CMAT is a test of 100 questions, where there is no button for section swapping but by applying common sense, any test taker can achieve the same. On right hand side there is a numbered bullet list of all the questions. If you want to reach the first question of an unknown section, just press question numbers 1, 26, 51, 76 then you can directly reach to the beginning of the other section and next 24 questions will be of the same section.

 

Nature of CMAT test: CMAT is a computer-based test (CBT) In CBT; a candidate will read the questions on a computer terminal and choose an answer by clicking on the correct option. The format of the test is more or less like paper pencil test  except that a candidate reads a question on a computer terminal and clicks on the correct answer, instead of reading on a paper booklet and using a pencil to darken the ovals on an answer sheet. Moreover no one can take the test from any computer. A candidate will have to take the test on a pre-assigned workstation and will not have a choice to choose his or her workstation, in the testing venue.

 

Validity period of CMAT score : CMAT exam score will be valid for the admissions to mba/pgdm for academic year 2016-18

 

CMAT is not an elimination test but a ranking test: CMAT has been designed to rank all the candidates who appear in the test based on their aptitude towards the management education in the order of their merit. The objective of the test is not to eliminate the candidates from the process of seeking admission in the AICTE approved management programs, rather to facilitate the institutions to select the suitable candidates as per their merit.

 

Nature of CMAT: CMAT is a computer based online exam It cannot be taken in paper-pencil mode.

 

No sectional cut off: No sectional cut off.

 

No sectional time limit: No sectional time limit constraint in this test. But it is advisable to allot time in a strategy which leads to score maximization.

 

Negative Marking: Yes: There shall be negative marking for wrong answers, for each wrong answer 1 mark shall be deducted ie 25% Negative Marking

 

Test Duration: Duration of exam will be 180 minutes

 

Number of Sections: There will be four sections in the test. The sections are (a) Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation b) Logical reasoning c) Language Comprehension and d) General Awareness

 

Number of questions in each section: There will be 25 questions in each section.

 

Moving back and forth between the four sections? Yes it is allowed but from question to question

 

Duration of test: The duration of test will be 180 minutes

 

CMAT CBT Test: Technical details.

 

The moment a candidate press START TEST button the test gets started and the timer of 3 hours start. Pressing NEXT button will lead to immediately next question and pressing PREVIOUS button will take to the immediately previous question. With FLAG button press any question can be marked to attempt or review it later, moreover with UNFLAG button the questions can be removed from same. The DESELECT button can be pressed to deselect the answers marked. Moreover the questions will appear one at a time and bulleted numbered list of all the questions will appear on right side with the specification marked. The answers can be changed at any time during the test by DESELECT button and it is possible to review answered as well as unanswered questions anytime during test. There will be a SUBMIT button and it appears only if the test taker has visited all the questions at least once. Press the SUBMIT button means end of the test. Moreover each question will be in numbered bullet list with the following specification. BLACK square = questions not attempted, GREEN square = questions attempted, YELLOW square = flagged questions not attempted. RED square questions attempted and flagged. The test is automatically stopped if the allotted time is over and time starts only when you click start test.

 

Trial test: Yes: A Trial test is available on the website of AICTE. This trial test is of 20 questions in 15 minutes ie It is the reduced CMAT test to make students a feel of the online CMAT test and navigation functionality. CMAT trial test is available on the website www.aicte-cmat.in for candidates to get familiarized with the functionality and navigation of the actual Computer Based test.

 

Age restriction: No, there is no age restriction for appearing in CMAT.
