How to deal Reasoning Ability section for SBI PO

To secure good marks and qualify in SBI PO 2017, here we are with how to deal with  Reasoning section in SBI PO 2017.

Reasoning Section is not about elementary application of Mathematical Concepts where one can learn and implement basic formula to solve any type of question accurately. In order to excel in SBI PO Reasoning Section it is of utmost importance that you develop an in-depth understanding of Logic.  Working hard, Reading and regularly solving questions based on all the topics covered by SBI PO Reasoning Syllabus is of paramount relevance.

The syllabus for Reasoning Ability consists of the following topics:

1). Puzzle (4 sets- Floor/ Data arrangement/ Ranking)

2). Seating Arrangement (Circular/ Linear/ Square)

3). Syllogism (New Pattern)

4). Coding-Decoding (New Pattern)

Miscellaneous

  • Blood Relation
  • Ranking & Direction
  • Equality – Inequality
  • Alpha Numeric Symbols

  • Keep yourself updated with all the new trends, and practice as much as you can. At least try 200 questions on each new topic (in all different varieties).
  • Practice every topic individually and take a full test to know what is your Strength and Weakness area. Mainly You can manage the time and make a different type of answer approach during your practice session.
  • Increase your speed and save time, practice a lot of shortcut techniques and use them while solving questions.This is the best technique to help you prepare for SBI Reasoning Section.
  • Cramming will never work in Reasoning Section of SBI PO Prelims. Questions based on Reasoning will be purely logic based. Try attempting as many questions as you can so that your logic building process is initiated and you can identify how to proceed further in a problem
  • If you go through the previous year question papers, you will see that questions from sitting arrangement (Liner, Circular) constitute a major chunk of reasoning section

As general guidelines, following are a few do and don’t while attempting the Reasoning section –

  • Try to score at least 15 marks while practicing mock tests, so that you can at least clear the cut offs.
  • Always be sure to solve the easier questions first as they are sure to fetch you marks. Spending time on the more difficult ones initially makes no sense.
  • First attempt all the Coding-Decoding, Inequalities, Arrangement & Pattern, Ordering & Ranking, Data sufficiency questions you can find. Attempt these questions in a maximum of 5-7 minutes.
  • Next attempt the problems based on Input Output, Syllogisms, Blood Relations.
  • Attempt the Puzzles and Seating Arrangement next, dedicating a maximum of 10 minutes to these problems.
  • Do not spend more than 25 minutes on the Reasoning section. Leave out the questions you can’t solve.
